What is a Multi-Slide?
The U.S. Baird Multi-Slide is an automatic machine designed specifically for the economical production of stampings from coil stock. The various motions provided by the Multi-Slide die head (ram): forming slides, vertical stripper mechanism and a range of auxiliary units afford the designers at CAR Engineering unlimited opportunity for the development of tools to produce stampings at considerably lower piece part cost by eliminating secondary operations and handlings. Because of their versatility, U.S. Baird Multi-Slides are readily adaptable for the simultaneous feeding and processing of more than one strip to complete an assembly. Prefabricated parts can be hoppered, positioned and assembled to the stamping being made in the machine.
Benefits:
- Reduce material usage- often with a multi-slide the material can be purchased slit to width
- Less expensive tooling
- Able to do tapping without having to purchase expensive in-die tapping equipment or do as a secondary
- Able to do light assemblies- such as rivet a stud into a metal stamping= no secondary
- Please view the photos of some parts produced on CAR’s multi-slides. Multi-slides are a great choice for parts that:
- Need interlocking seams
Are small and intricate
Are round or square (box shaped)
